How would you recommended getting a career in tax, and what work experience is beneficial ?

Hi Eve, thanks for your question. When you start on a team in tax, you get brought up to speed on the tasks that are expected of you - new joiners are very much treated like a blank slate. For example, I studied Chinese and Japanese studies at university so did not have any accounting or tax background before joining. It's very much the same for a lot of other people in the business where they have come through various different paths before starting in tax. In terms of work experience, any type of experience that allows you to work in a collaborative setting and providing deliverables will put you in good stead to understand what it will be like working on a team at EY.

Hi Peter, as you mentioned, coming from different backgrounds/studies does not stop you from entering into the industry. What can I do, as a MSc in Finance student, to enter into the company and specifically into tax?

Hi Carolyn, absolutely you can apply for a tax role with a Masters in Business Analytics. Although the technical skills may not be entirely transferable, it won't hurt you at all.

Hi Nathalia, please do apply for a grad role within the tax team! When studying for the qualifications, there are finance exams and so your Msc will definitely come in handy there!

Are the grad roles within tax still open?
I applied to an internship instead and I did not hear back. As a Master student, should I not apply to internships?

I would recommend a graduate role as a masters student. Applications are still open until June 7 and the positions typically start first week of September if applying for a September start or in the first week of April for April starters.
