I would love to know more about what a career in tax would be like?

Hi Thoiba, a career in tax at EY can be extremely varied. We have sub-teams which cover all areas in tax such as personal tax, international tax, tax audits, employment taxes amongst many other areas. A career in each team might look slightly different however you will have the opportunity to work on some exciting projects regardless of sub-team.

Just to add on to what Euan has put above, I work in international tax and my daily role includes interacting with overseas teams to find out how the different tax systems interact and may affect a client, helping to draft transaction steps for clients for business reorganisations and offering tax advice where clients may not understand the regulations which they must comply with. With regards the career itself, as you progress your responsibility grows so you will find you have a greater interaction with clients and be able to provide more in depth analysis on complicated topics.

As with Euan and Ruby above, I have had a very varied start to my tax career with EY. I started in the International Tax team working with some major Energy companies. Work ranged from assisting them with due diligence on potential mergers, carve outs for new business opportunities, to company tax returns. My new role has moved away from corporate tax into global mobility. I now work with individuals who work cross country and have potential tax implications in more than one country. We navigate through the landmine filled world or international tax and ensure our clients maintain within the lines of compliance. We provide dedicated, personal support for people who may have to move abroad - sometime under difficult situations. The work is very rewarding and you can see it having a real impact on peoples lives.
