The head of my tax team started out as a horse racing journalist after doing a history degree, so it definitely isn't a requirement to have a tax background! To be a successful early career joiner in the team, the main thing is to be enthusiastic and conscientious and really get stuck into everything. The best way to learn is to be involved in projects, and the expectation of you is to learn and ask questions so that you can take your experience forward

Hi Valerie. It is not necessary to have a background in Tax to have a successful Career in Tax at EY... I know a lot of people in my team who have come from non-finance backgrounds, and some people have even started with History degrees! So don't worry if you don't have a Tax background as EY offers a number of technical training courses which will help you get up to speed and know it all! You are not expected to know everything about tax legislation, but it is more important that you have the ambition and willingness to learn and be able to apply any transferable skills you have as these will also be very helpful
