Additional information

I am looking to start a graduate scheme but feel that since I do not have financial services experience I am at a disadvantage when applying. Due to limited annual leave it is difficult to get a placement.

Hi Matt, having no financial services experience shouldn't hinder you when applying at a graduate level. Many of my cohort are recent graduates with no working experience or are have work experience but in a different industry. What I think is important is to showcase your transferable skills.

Thank you for your advice. Are you aware of any week long placements that are offered (preferably in London)? I would like to get some experience of what working at EY is like before I make a big career change.

My final question is what advice would you give for video interviews - I was unsuccessful at this stage in my previous application. Since questions are based around hypothetical situations should the answers rely on my past experience or should I speak about what I would do in these situations?
Is it true that this stage is marked by AI intially? If so are these AI looking for eye contact into the camera and key words?

Hi Matt, I think it's always best to relate your answer back to actual past experiences, whether at work or school etc. Otherwise, if not possible, explain what you would do and your reasoning. I've also heard that lighting and background is important, and to not rush when speaking (although, this can be difficult when you have a limited amount of time to answer).

I'm not entirely sure whether it's marked by AI but good eye contact with the camera and key words are tips I've heard before too.

Yes I have found it difficult to fully articulate an answer in limited time and without the human interaction where you can gauge what the interviewer is interested in. I guess I just need more practice!

Definitely, I struggled with that too. One thing I did was film myself practicing answers on my laptop, which allowed me to see where I need to improve and gives me an indication of timing.

Yes I have done this previously too. I have a lot of funny videos of this on my phone
My email is in my account details so if anyone is able to arrange a call at some point for me to ask some more questions about life at EY and how I can specifically tailor my application to showcase my skills in the best way I would love the opportunity.
I would also be available to come to the London office if I have enough notice to book off a day of annual leave.
