Sitting actuarial exams can help show employers you are serious about the actuarial career. I sat CM1 preivately in the year I applied for an actuarial grad scheme. Even if you don't pass the exam (it can be hard to pass without support and it can be expensive) employers will likely appreciate it. This was the case for me.

I think at an application stage there are more important factors that we consider. Our recruitment process comprises of an online assessment, an assessment centre and a final interview. Top tips for our assessment centre would be to ensure you understand and analyse the materials, voice your opinions on the task, include others and showcase how well you can work in a team. With regards to both the video and in person interviews, our top tips would be to ensure you have fully researched EY and can talk about your motivations for choosing EY, the service line and location. Also ensure you are really answering the interview question provided.
